North Park 1
Orienteering Meet
17 May 2026

The day was sunny and clear with the temperature in the 70s at the start of the meet and in the low 80s by the end. On the night before, a few raccoons redecorated the shelter with the previous user's trash that had to be dealt with before everyone arrived. There were 24 people preregistered for the first Beginner session and 25 for the second session. Seventeen people showed up for the first session, and 21 took part in the second. For the Intermediate session, 16 people were registered, and 10 showed up. Twenty people took part in the Advanced courses.

Joe Logan designed the 16-control Beginner score course and taught both of the Beginner sessions. A few of the beginners found all 16 controls, and several found the somewhat remote Control No. 62. Joe also designed a Trail-less course, a Line course, and a Memory course for the Advanced exercises. Ten people tried Trail-less course, eight tried the Line course one, and seven tried the Memory course and a few completed all three courses. Jim Wolfe designed and taught the Intermediate session.

There are no timing results as there were no official starts and no checking of control cards. The next WPOC event will be at Deer Lakes Park on Saturday 6 June.

Thanks to Jim Wolfe for vetting. Thanks to Laurie Opila, Naomi Jarvis, and Edna Spang for handling registration/check-in. Thanks to Sherry Shank and John Pane for helping with start/finish. Thanks to Joe Logan and Jim Wolfe for conducting instruction. And thanks to Kim Stewart, Edna Spang, and John Pane for doing control pickup.
