It was a fairly cool day, the temperature starting out below freezing and only reaching about 45 by mid-afternoon. But there was no rain and the wind was reasonable, a good day for orienteering. We had 49 teams on the 6-hour where the overall winner (Cattywampus) got 933 points (having lost some due to being late); and we had 22 teams on the 3-hour where the overall winner (The Rzewskinator) got 490 points. The number of points possible was 1500. Nearly everyone who registered actually showed up; we were missing only one team and a couple of individuals from other teams.

Alexis Rzewski designed the courses. It was another of his challenging courses which had its share of hill climbing, reentrant descents, briar patches and an occasional stream crossing. Nevertheless, nearly all the comments about the course were positive. The one exception was about control 124 which for the first three hours was not where the map showed it. It was reported to be missing about noon and by about 1 pm Alexis had corrected the problem. As a consequence, any team that reported looking for 124 but not finding it was given credit for it (see the bonus points in the results).

There were a couple small issues that competitors had. Several 3-hour teams that were working together (I think because this was their first Raccoongaine) came back extraordinarily late by about 45 minutes. Also, one 6-hour team (of one person) lost her SI card and consequently does not show at all in the results.

As expected, the most visited controls were 101 (52 teams) and 102 (48 teams). Also as expected, the least visited controls were all in the eastern portion of the map. There were seven controls that were visited by only 4 teams (third lowest number); control 119 was visited by only 3 teams; and the least visited control was 136 with only a single visit (by Will Levine). The Mother control-Mystery control pairs were Mother 101 for Mystery 114, Mother 103 for Mystery 113, Mother 107 for Mystery 112 and Mother 125 for Mystery 111.
