Hartwood Acres
Orienteering Meet
21 September 2025

It was a nice day for orienteering, temperature in the upper 70s with a light breeze. We had a large group of people who preregistered, especially for the first beginner session and for the intermediate session; unfortunately, many of them did not show up. Still, there were 44 people in the first beginner session and 33 in the second beginner session. On the other hand, there were only 3 people for the intermediate session. 20 people tried the advanced exercises; about half of them tried two of the exercises.

Joe Logan designed the 15-control beginner score course and taught both of the beginner sessions. Naomi Jarvis and Sherry Shank helped teach the first beginner session. He also designed two trail-less courses and a fog-o course for the advanced exercises. 14 people tried the easier trail-less course 5 tried the harder one; and 8 tried the fog-o course. Jim Wolfe designed and taught the intermediate session.

There are no timing results as there were no official starts and no checking of control cards.

Thanks to Alexis Rzewski for vetting. Thanks to Laurie Opila, Sherry Shank and Yaki Barak for handling registration/check-in. Thanks to Naomi Jarvis and Lee Bash for helping with start/finish. Thanks to Joe Logan, Sherry Shank, Naomi Jarvis and Jim Wolfe for conducting instruction. And thanks to Lee Bash, Ryan Repp and Kim Stewart for doing control pickup.

The next WPOC event will be at Blue Spruce Park on 5 October.
